A European photo project on the Corona crisis - 52 photographers from 48 countries show photos from all European capitals.

The Sky Over Copenhagen consist of six images all recorded from the exact same spot – the centre of City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen), Copenhagen – under a period of six weeks from the first lockdown in Denmark, spring 2020.

Each image is a collage of two, one image showing the City Hall of Copenhagen, in central perspective, and one image, where the camera is tilted up 90 degrees, recording with the same framing, 30 seconds after, the sky straight up above this central point of Copenhagen.

The deserted central square is an abnormality, displaying the circumstances the pandemic has coursed, it shows the antisocial way of life, not meetings people, laugh and each other physical company – this feels wrong, feels alarming and showcase our fragility.

When looking up, the sky is still the same – deep with playful clouds, grey and flat or dramatic in colour and shape with the occasional bird flying through, reminding us that everything is as before, up in the sky, the sky that connects us all – this fills me with hope.
