Es war ein sehr beklemmendes Gefühl, in einer Stadt unterwegs zu sein, die bisher normalerweise vor Leben sprudelte, nun aber in einer Art Schockstarre verharrt. Ich stand z.B. im Sony-Center am Potsdamer Platz (Bild Nr. 4) nahezu 30 Minuten völlig allein bis endlich eine Person vorbeikam. Zieht man die jetzt fehlenden Touristen aus dem Stadtbild ab frage ich mich, was wohl die knapp 3,8 Millionen Einwohner Berlins nun seit Wochen in ihren Wohnungen und Homeoffices machen und was sie über ihre Zukunft denken.

Die große Frage, die sich mir im Zusammenhang mit der Corona-Pandemie stellt ist die folgende: Wird es in absehbarer Zeit wieder ein neues „Normal“ geben und wie sieht das dann aus? Bei dieser Pandemie bemerke ich, wie wertvoll viele kleine Dinge des Alltags waren, die nun nicht mehr selbstverständlich sind. Ich hoffe sehr, dass unsere Gesellschaft nach der Pandemie nicht wieder in ein „weiter so“ zurückfällt, sondern z.B. dem Klimaschutz viel mehr Beachtung schenkt oder z.B. auch den bei uns plötzlich so „systemrelevanten“ Berufen wie Krankenpfleger/in oder Supermarktkassierer/in mehr Achtung und vor allem auch mehr Bezahlung zukommen lässt. Es gibt sehr vieles, was neu gedacht werden muss.

It felt strange walking the streets of a city that, up until recently overflowing with life, was now in a continuous state of shock. I was standing in the Sony Center nearby the Potsdamer Platz (Image No. 4) and had to wait for almost 30 minutes until I finally saw another person walking by. Substracting the missing tourists from the city, I couldn’t help but wonder what the almost 3.8 million inhabitants of Berlin had been doing for the past weeks in their apartments and home offices and what they might be thinking about their futures.

The big question I’m posing myself in the context oft the corona pandemic ist the following: Will there be a new „normal“ in the near future and if so, what will it look like?

This pandemic made me realize, how precious the small things of everyday life were, that can’t be taken for granted anymore. I hope after this pandemic our society won’t fall back into old patterns and might instead give more attention e.g. to climate protection and higher salaries to now essential workers like e.g. medical assistants or cashiers in the supermarkets.

Many things need to be rethought.
